Life@Carbo Vol. 9 (Summer Sessions)

Hello Friends.... (Jim Nantz voice)

Fun that we meet here once again...

Assignment Updates:

WEEK TWENTY

·         Shannon invited me to attend an LSP (Louisiana State Police) meeting in Lafayette, but I couldn't attend due to a JD Clifton zoom meeting where we discussed some more details for the 30% CD submittal on Thursday.

·         We moved from Land F/X to Vectorworks for this project, so Amy and I are receiving periodic crash courses on the program from Conner who primarily works in this software.

·         We divided up tasks, Amy handled grading, Conner focused on hardscape, while I focused on landscaping. I transferred our preliminary planting plan that I made from Land F/X. I then was tasked with mapping the paths with “Stakes” which works with GPS to help that contractor precisely map the points on the site. Lastly, I roughly attempted a layout plan which would be good enough for a 30% submittal. Conner and Amy finalized the sheets, and we submitted at the end of the day.

·         The metal edging was finally delivered and installed earlier this week.

·         Finalized the LSUA Downtown Health Services Center redlines for Keith

·         On Friday we had another Carbo Labs lay where we weeded the beds and put some more plants in the ground. The metal edging was delivered earlier in the week.

WEEK TWENTY-ONE

·         After our weekly Staff meeting, I took some time to sketch some conceptually putting green layout ideas for JD Clifton. To add to the putting green layout, I proposed the idea of incorporating bunkers consisting of a thicker turf to mimic sand traps.

·         On Tuesday we took an office trip to Arnaudville to visit June Walker Memorial Greenhouse & Education Center. There we toured their experimental garden, greenhouse, and wide selection of plants/shrubs for sale which a few people purchased.

·         Took a trip up to the Bluff with Zach and Danielle to look at the progress on the Southern University Amphitheater. The bell themed stage was assembled when we arrived. We also looked at some drainage receptacles that were still exposed, it's going to be amazing when complete.

·         Listened in on a Zoom meeting with Zach and Keith discussing design changes to LSUA Downtown Health Services Center. After making alterations to the H & A Bases Keith handed over the CD sheets where I adjusted the Layout Plan as well as updated the irrigation sheets.

·         Amy is going on a trip next week which leaves Connor and I to continue to make headway on JD Clifton. We met to discuss 3D Modeling in Vectorworks along with other grading, landscape, and layout concerns.

Personal Bits:

Not much is going on, I always hoop.

I'm currently in the process of training my cousin's friend as he heads into this junior year of high school.

Never really considered myself a basketball trainer but I'm learning to do so. It's been fun, learning how to push him in all areas of his game physically, mentally, and emotionally.

To be a great player you have to master all 3 facets to be resilient in the face of adversity, cool under pressure, and have the ability to bury your opponent when it matters.

Taking my experience from playing basketball for different coaches, against a wide range of opponents, and learning from players from amateur to pro, I'm trying to give him direction that will allow him to successful no matter how far he chooses to take the game.

It's been rewarding to see him progress
