Howdy gang!
I hope all is going well and smooth in your lives.
WE MADE IT TO 10 BLOGS!! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Assignment Updates:
WEEK
TWENTY-TWO
·
The week was spent producing the iterations of
the putting green for JD Clifton Park. It’s my first time experimenting with
golf design, it’s a unique niche in the profession. It’s been a mix of research
to find precedents, contacting synthetic turf dealers to inquire about their
scope to see if my ideas are viable options, and lots of scratch paper.
·
Amy is currently on vacation, so Conner and I
are both working through grading of the site. He is in Vectorworks working up a
3D Model of the site based on the topography Amy left out for him.
WEEK
TWENTY-THREE
·
Was assigned Roseate Beach Hardscape redlines
from Zach and Danielle, completed them by the next day.
·
Met with Conner to discuss what updates he’s
made on JD Clifton Park and what to mention to Amy as he was going to miss the next week on
vacation.
Personal Bits:
Danny's Driver Report:
Upon Last week, Pops and I had the unique experience of being invited to the BMW U.S. Headquarters in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
This experience spanned from Thursday to Saturday...
Thursday: Arrive, Introductory Lunch in the Zentrum, Assembly Hall tour, and Dinner
Friday: Track Day, Alpina Museum tour, and Dinner
Saturday: Departures
THURSDAY: DAY 1
Arial View of Campus
BMW Zentrum (Visitor Center)
Interior of the Zentrum, this is not my picture. I thought that I for sure had some pics put I was very much trying to be present and enjoy with my own eyes. The F1 car wasn't there this time :(.
Credentials and M....the most powerful letter in the world
At BMW, "M" stands for "Motorsport" and represents the brand’s high-performance division, known for creating sportier, more powerful versions of standard BMW models.
(NOT SHOWN) BMW ASSEMBLY HALL TOUR, NO RECORDING WAS ALLOWED AND IF WE DID, WE WOULD BE TAKEN TO THE BACK OF THE SHOP WHERE A GENTLEMAN BY THE NAME OF "LUIS" WOULD BREAK OUR KNEECAPS WITH AN ENORMOUS CRESCENT WRENCH.................
FRIDAY: DAY 2 (TRACK DAY)
BMW Performance Center (Across the street from the Assembly Hall and Zentrum)
Introductory Welcome/Meeting Prior to Track Day.
Me and one of the instructors, bro was mad cool.
The Track Day consisted of FIVE event stations...
Rat Race:
Two cars start on opposite sides of a cone-marked oval track, racing to complete three laps or catch each other. Sprinklers keep the track soaked, making every turn a test of control. With traction control completely off, it's all about throttle, balance, and precision. Each driver is behind the wheel of a BMW M340i—nearly 400 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, and no electronic safety nets.
In this clip, (I'm in the white car) this is my third race I've been handing out L's already......soooooo I tried to slide it around a lil bit. 😂😂. Shoutout Pops on the commentary.
Lead and Follow:
In this event, an instructor sets the pace in a lead car while you follow close behind. Your goal is to match their racing line, braking points, and throttle control as precisely as possible. It’s all about learning the fastest and most efficient way around the track through real-time example. We were behind the wheel of a BMW M4 Competition—523 horsepower, all-wheel drive performance coupe.
Love the M4, just need a longer straight so we can really get up in the numbers. This was my favorite station.
Weapon of choice is in white.
Off Road:
As the title implies, we switch to the on-site off-road course in a couple of BMW X3 M50's which is BMW's mid-size SUV.
This clip is of Pops cresting the hill on the off-road course.
Hot Lap:
Perhaps the most thrilling station of the event, you will be a passenger in a BMW M3 Competiton that is driven to its limits by a professional driver at BMW.
This was nothing short of amazing. The M3 is my favorite BMW, but this lap legit made Pops and I queasy. It's better to drive than be the passenger as it relates to motion sickness. It took us about an hour to get our stomach to feel remotely normal again. I'd do it again, just let me drive. 😂 The driver was THE MAN he started professional racing in 82' and was driving that car like he was in the cockpit of a F-18.
He was definitely giving Ken Miles typa vibes....iykyk.
Timed Laps:
There is a circuit where everyone in the group is going head-to-head to record the fastest lap time on a challenging track configuration.
This run was done directly after the hot lap.... I was not feeling the greatest. Nevertheless, I quit being a baby and tried to get a low time. This was my fastest lap finishing with a 22.22 second lap. Pops clocked a 22.0 on his best, and the fastest in our group clocked a 21.3 which is really impressive. Once again, shoutout Pops on the commentary.
NOT TO MENTION IT WAS RAINING FOR THE WHOLE TRACK DAY, I NEED TO SPIN BACK WHEN ITS NICE AND DRY. 👌
After the conclusion of the Track Day, we got back on the bus and headed over to BMW's Alphina Museum.
Alpina is a German automotive manufacturer that specializes in high-performance, luxury-tuned versions of BMW vehicles. Unlike aftermarket tuners, Alpina works closely with BMW, with many of its models produced on BMW assembly lines and carrying full BMW warranties. The result is a unique blend of BMW engineering and Alpina’s signature focus on refined power, comfort, and exclusivity.
Here are a few things that I saw:
E9 BMW 3.0 CSL Alphina
E36 BMW Alphina B3 3.0 Cabriolet
E9 BMW Alphina B2S
E31 BMW Alphina B12 5.7 Coupe (my fav)
E36 BMW Alphina B8 4.6 Touring. (We love a good Touring, shoutout Andrew.)
VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY cool stuff to say the least! Very grateful for the opportunity to experience the automobiles of one of my favorite brands and ofc the time I got to spend with Pops.
Songs of the Blog:
SONG 1: Mom used to have this joint in the rotation in the car when I was like 5. 😂 SONG 2: Shoutout Apple Music Suggestions we got one.
Til' next time ✌
