Week #7: Feb 24
During my 7th week, I continued making headway on work I had as
well as starting and finishing a quick turn around effort for something new! I
am grateful for the steady pace of work as well as the challenge of new tasks
that need to be completed quickly. I wrapped up on my inventory of existing
conditions and information for Ozark master planning efforts. I also continued
working on the basemaps/inventory analysis maps in GIS as well as the report in
InDesign. It has been nice to work on this effort more solo and ask for
direction when needed as it is so new so I do not have a lot of prior SWT
information to catch up on. It also has been interesting, challenging, and helpful;
all at the same time, to go back and forth between scales for this project. From
toggling between the small scale of Garrison Springs to the overall system
planning of Ozark, I have developed a better understanding of scale, and the
difference of information needed at each scale. This has made me contemplate
how I could incorporate it into my internship project, but I am undecided as of
now. This week I started and finished two quick efforts. One was quick basemaps
for Corey for a interview for Great Rivers Greenway (GRG). I quickly found GIS
data and made basemaps for two different Greenways so Corey could add them to
his interview slide deck. The other quick turn around was a marketing effort,
creating a schedule diagram for Wentzville master planning, using a hand sketch
from Ted and an existing diagram Scott pointed me to. Finally, for fun, I will
finish with food. (Does that count as alliteration? Hehe) This week we had a lunch
and learn-which I am realizing is typically a salesperson coming to sell a brands
product as we eat and watch.. but it sounds more awkward than it is I swear. On
Friday, we topped off the week with a new happy hour breakfast- eating beignets!
So close to home (baton rouge being my 2nd home now)… yet so far. It
was a eventful and productive week!
Week #8: Mar 3
The 8th week of my internship has seemed to fly by. In honor of how quickly this week went I am doing
this report quickly as well. This week I worked on:
-SEED Material Diagrams- creating diagrams in InDesign color coding
material differences in many different plans. We needed one for hardscape,
planting areas, soil types, irrigation, and lighting. We had a couple
coordination meetings in preparation for the upcoming client meeting. -Continued working on the basemaps of Ozark parks, importing them into the
report, and filling out existing conditions in the report as well.
-My internship project. I have added on the extent to the project to not
only include the Normandy High demonstration garden, but to also include a planning/recommendation
phase of greenways connecting all schools in the Normandy Schools Collaborative
(district) as well as to the location of Micheal Browns murder, where the community
has continuously implemented a makeshift memorial for him since his death in 2014.
There is a large greenspace where a memorial plaque was placed in his honor in
2024, that I will use as the potential trailhead to the “Mike Mike Spur” as his
mother so lovingly called him, that will lead to his Alma Mater. This will
allow me to tackle both a small and large scale sites, allowing me to explore
that workflow I am not used to in our studio set up at LSU.
-Finally, I had a CAD sheet set up standard guide walk through with Scott
and Brandon. They have put together a very thorough guide that not only walked
me through the process but explained it as well. It opened many doors in my
brain into understanding CAD/XREFS and the importance of sheet set up. As we
were doing this, I kept SEED in mind, as the next step is 50% CD’s which we will
be starting soon. Overall, it was a great week filled with growth!
Omg I would kill for a cad sheet set up standard guide walk through
