 Blog #6 - Jalen Winburn

Hello all,

The last few weeks have been a bit boring at the internship as I have been working on fixing line weights for construction documents, arranging indesign files, and making maps in arcgis. Yesterday we also had a community engagement workshop which is something I would rather never do again in my career. The reasoning being residents came in acting like I had the intelligence as a rock, but they were a listened architect in all 50 states. My favorite was an engineer who had the same comment every time as follows: “As an engineer, (insert irrelevant critique for a conceptual design).” With all that being said hopefully it is just a boring stretch and in the following weeks I will get back to being involved in more exciting things.

On the bright side, outside of work the weather has been great here and the trees are finally getting leaves again. It is nice to start seeing a green landscape again. I also have spent a lot of time at the golf course golfing with friends and getting the feel for the ball back since breaking my hand in the fall. This past weekend I was bored so I decided to test my architectural skills and make up my own project for an off-grid rental house. I bought a year subscription for sketchup so I can use that when I get back to school and I have been modeling an A-frame house for the project. I will be sure to keep everyone updated. Anyways I am starting to miss school a little bit and am excited to return in the fall.
