Hi all, this is super late, but I guess now’s the perfect time to start. So, I’ll just start from the beginning. After 26 hours of driving (including 6 awful hours of driving less than 20 mph through a snowstorm in the mountains) I made it from Baton Rouge to Glenwood Springs. But enough of all of that let’s get into the nitty gritty of the internships! The first week at Design Workshop was what you would expect, a lot of orientation meetings, getting familiar with the system and file organization, and a lot of introductions as there are about 40 people working in my Aspen Office. After this first week of introductions and multiple orientations, I got plugged into my first project which was creating section/elevations for this crazy million-dollar mansion in downtown Aspen. At first there was a huge learning curve going from a “I’ll figure it out as I go” mindset at LSU to “this is the specific way we do things and have done for years” mindset at a firm. But as I have worked more within CAD I am learning and getting more familiar with how everything works. Honestly, I’ve learned more in CAD and other software in the short amount of time I’ve been here than in the years at LSU lol.
