So Many Models... Life @ SWA #8
Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. It's crazy to think that its already finals week back at LSU... it feels like this internship has only been a few weeks. Time is going by so quickly but I can't wait to see everyone again next semester!
LIFE @ THE OFFICE
The past week or so has still been pretty boring for me recently. I've had lots of work to do which is great, but going through CAD files and excel sheets is pretty monotonous. I was able to wrap up the TBG appraisal and finished making last minute edits to my entry monument models before putting them into the presentation slides. I think it's really cool that the client is going to be looking at the models I designed and choosing options that they like! It's also nerve wracking though... I've gone through so many times making tweaks and edits to them.
*** as a side note, I think it's crazy how private residential work and private development communities always have more than enough or extra funding - but public projects and those in the city usually have the smallest budgets and are always getting things cut***
Anyways - this past week was pretty chill overall. After finishing the appraisal, I spent most of the week working on photoshop trying to edit my models and add fog to the background. Normally this wouldn't have been an issue butttt there were 40 different pictures for me to go through and edit. This was on top of the full day it took just to render the models. (FYI if you ever design small areas don't model them in a grid... I did and I had to turn each model off and on as I was rendering them) I think it was worth all of the effort though, but we'll see what the client thinks.
***another side note - has anyone actually been to a client meeting?***

The rest of last week and the beginning of this week has been focused on a new project called Jubilee. It's a planned community project just outside of the city. (Another crazy thing - why are there 4/5 different residential planned community developments all happening at the same time? Is there that many people trying to move to Houston, or does that mean there's that many people trying to get out? Who knows) The work for it hasn't been hard, just tedious. One of the tasks I've been working on is making sheet layouts for what the developer calls their fancy fences; it's basically a concrete fence with some artful elements included. It has really been helping though with creating sheets and layouts in CAD - usually I would export everything and make the sheet in InDesign, but it's so quick in CAD.
Example of a sheet layout (it's been edited since so don't say anything about my missing match lines 😅) |
The other task that started on yesterday was a Trail and Wellness Diagram for the same community. It's essentially just to show how the community trails connect you to different amenity areas within the community focused on reflection, exploration, connectivity, etc. I just needed to grab all of the CL's from the pathways, but all of the layout files were separated between the different sections, so it took forever getting the linework I needed. Once I had it all though, it went by pretty quick.
The left is the updated trails network - the right is a previous version that was out of date |
LIFE ON THE OUTSIDE
I really don't have much going on outside of work right now, I'm pretty boring. I pretty much get home, do chores, and get on my game before I get in bed and crash. This 9-5 lifestyle is really draining recently. But anyways, since I don't have anything going on, enjoy this random picture of Tamale 🫶***side note for those of you that remember - I've been playing Baldur's Gate for over a year now, and I just got to the city in Act III. I thought I was overwhelmed before, but it has so much going on***
