Week 14 – Week 16: April 7th- 25th

Blog blog blog blog blog

Hello and good morning-

Work is going splendidly, but scheduling our classes makes me excited to see everyone back on campus!

I added the playground that we received from DynaPlay into the Lock Park rendering and made some InDesign poster / graphics for a meeting with the mayor of Lake Charles. During the meeting he came to the realization that Lake Charles needs a custom playground! (bright side: custom playgrounds are way cooler and I am excited to be witness the process, dark side: I’m experiencing a neverending loop of rendering and rerendering). Whatever, so then I worked on gathering some potential custom precedents to get everyone’s brain rolling. Moncus Park is still in the early stages, I’ve been working on an excel of precedent parks, comparing their size, context, programming, and funding elements. That has been really nice to research other parks, while keeping our Moncus knowledge in mind. Lots of places that I’m adding to my bucket list! Some of the staff is going to Lafayette for a Discovery Day (glorified site visit) to Moncus park next week, so me and Danny are preparing some existing sections for them to mark up on site. I also had a meeting with Danielle to clear up some of my section’s complications for Roseate Beach.

A little family weekend in New Orleans- reminder to stay young, scrappy, and hungry!

Great start to the week! They decided to include us in the Moncus park Discovery Day! I am pumped!  It was my favorite day of work so far. We got to meet the staff at the park and discussed history, maintenance schedules, issues and hot spots, and donor / community relations. It is an 100 acre park, with only the first half programmed and easily accessible. They have a very impressive and unique way of running things, and I can tell it will be a formative thing to witness. When we got back to the office, I got to work on an RFP and an RFQ for some potential projects. And some more roseate work, sketching the texture and color schemes on a different sign to make sure they don’t look weird next to each other. Friday was pretty slow, so we spent most of the day planting in the CARBO Labs- last round of plants for the front beds are finally in!

Massive barn style tree house in SLO!

Purple Martin Housing - can i get a "boom" ?!?

                                        Insane iris collection - BOOM!

Week 16 is also included, because I treated myself to a week off. I got to catch up with my sisters and rest my brain a little bit. But of course, couldn’t miss our work day fun day at Gretna City Park. So, I met everyone in New Orleans for Friday, for some weed pulling and team bonding. Along with lunch, and a construction visit to Mirabeau Water Gardens.

Pictures to come for this, but for now ... here is my cat mid sneeze

                                            bless you melo

Peace love and plants
