CONNOR Interning(6)- DDG

This is the longest I've gone without posting a blog. Our office move and spring break happened so ngl it was not in my thought process for a couple weeks but here we are.

I spent the whole of spring break in PCB Florida. The water was cold, the wind was bone chilling, but still came out of it with an aching liver and a nasty tan. The time off was well needed. Now I'm back and prepared to conquer all of South Louisiana.

Before vacation, the office was in the process of packing up and moving everything to the new office. Chad had me working like a mule moving boxes and disassembling desks before I left bc he knew I'd be gone for a week. So the week was action packed with manual labor and extreme coordination with the whole team. Unfortunately, I was so busy I forgot to take photos of the whole moving process but I have a couple that will have to do.

This was our old materials library I was tasked with boxing up all neatly.

There was so much junk in here. Old bricks that we didn't need anymore. Old samples of turf that were falling apart. Plans that needed to be scanned and thrown out which will most likely be my job. There was also mold growing in all the old soil samples so loved breathing all that in.

Not sure if this video came out right on blogger but I tried. This is a quick, shaky video of what you see when you walk into our new office. It was the Walk On's headquarters before we got it, so there's all kinds of fun stuff like a basketball court, a shuffleboard, and a BAR. The BAR is cool because there's seating all around it and I can sit there and eat lunch instead of eating in my truck like I used to do. Since this office is on Burbank next to campus I have tons of lunch options I'm excited to dig into.

Before I left, I was assigned to help one of our Landscape Architects with a project on Afton Villa. We went on a site visit and met the owner of the gardens. They want us to digitize historical data with GIS and help them register the live oaks as historical landmarks. Some of the live oaks they have there are as old as the LSU campus or older. I also met THE Lake Douglas, a retired LSU LA professor. He had a lot to say about the current situation we're having with the program but was excited to know I'd be helping with the Afton project. He also told me he felt sorry for me because I had Will as a plant professor. I was like whaaAat...

Ahhhhh... Afton Villa, not much had changed since our field trip with Will.

Flowers still pretty. Ivy puttin in that work. Good lad

Oh no... this again. I actually really liked my design for this project when we did it. Good old days

Ye they keeping these bushes fresh

Chad Danos(left) and Lake Douglas(right) taking a stroll and reminiscing on old LSU memories. Chad was one of Lake Douglas's students when he was still teaching at LSU. Two absolute LEGENDS in one place at the same time... EPIC

The pond at Afton. Thought it was pretty

This really old cedar had wire fencing it had grown around. It looks like they left it and cut off the excess wire a long long time ago. DOPE

These are just a couple of the live oaks we're going to help to get registered.
WOW

As of right now, just trying to get oriented with the new office and figure out where I left off task wise. Also trying to get Chad to send Max these stupid intern forms he hasn't touched yet. Bros just that busy

Till next time... Connor out.
