New Teams, Birthday Celebrations, and Baseball Battles: A Two-Week Recap Jace(CCA)
Weeks 9-10: Navigating New Horizons – Embracing Change and Celebrations
Week 9: March 17 - March 21
Monday:
- The
week kicked off with the usual weekly scheduling meeting, setting
the stage for upcoming tasks.
- Sat in
on a wayfinding greenway project meeting, discussing strategies for
guiding movement through Harris County’s landscapes.
- Wrapped
up the day with a one-on-one session with the studio lead, getting
valuable insights into workflow and expectations.
Tuesday:
- Attended
the staff meeting to get updates on various projects.
- Had a project
meeting focused on developing sections for a new Harris County
greenway. Tasked with rendering and bringing these visions to life.
Wednesday:
- Finalized
and rendered five sections for a 9 AM presentation.
- Reviewed
client feedback and implemented necessary updates.
- Developed
an enlargement plan for a particular section to better understand
its relationship with the surrounding site.
Thursday:
- Addressed
redlines and refinements from the previous day’s work.
- Wrapped
up the enlargement plan and then revisited planting guidelines
I had worked on earlier, updating the planting addendum to reflect
new specifications.
Friday:
- The
office runs on a three-team structure, and the intern program rotates
interns between teams to get a broader experience. Today was my turn
to switch teams.
Weekend (March 22 - March 24): Birthday Celebrations,
Baseball, and Big Bites
Friday Evening:
- Marlaux
and two of my closest childhood friends came into town to celebrate my
birthday. We kicked off the weekend with dinner and LSU baseball.
Saturday:
- Morning
started with coffee for them (Black Hole Coffee House), while I
kept it simple.
- Breakfast
from a taco food truck—a solid, quick, no-frills meal.
- Spent
the late morning exploring Hermann Park, taking in the scenery
before heading to the Houston Zoo. Monkeys were still elite.
- Lunch
at Truth BBQ—easily one of the best BBQ meals I’ve had yet.
- The
evening was spent watching more LSU baseball, and we randomly took
a late-night detour for Dubai chocolate (which ended up being a
regret).
Sunday:
- The Houston
Rodeo was the main event for the day.
- Shared
an elote in a cup with Marlaux while we walked around. Rode a gondola
to get a view of everything.
- Lunch
at Shake Shack before saying goodbye to everyone.
- Ended
the weekend resetting for the week ahead and watching more LSU baseball.
Culinary Chronicles (Week 9 Edition)
- Cadente
- Food:
8/10 – Mexican food never misses. The queso was next level,
and I had a steady supply of Coke Zero.
- Environment:
7/10 – The place was packed, definitely a go-to spot.
- Black
Hole Coffee House
- Food:
5/10 – Just had a store-bought mango smoothie. It was fine.
- Environment:
5/10 – Small and crowded, not much seating.
- Taco
Food Truck
- Food:
5/10 – Decent and fast. Got the job done.
- Environment:
2/10 – Just a lady and her truck.
- Houston
Zoo
- Food:
10/10 – Nothing beats a Coke slushy on a hot day.
- Environment:
10/10 – Primates bring peace.
- Truth
BBQ
- Food:
9/10 – The two-meat combo was incredible. Sides were A1.
- Environment:
8/10 – 30-40 min wait, but the meal was worth it.
- Dubai
Chocolate
- Food:
1/10 – I don’t like Dubai chocolate.
- Environment:
1/10 – Drove forever, line was long, and someone was lurking by
my car.
- Houston
Rodeo: Corn Stand
- Food:
5/10 – Just elote in a cup, nothing game-changing.
- Environment:
6/10 – Classic fair vibes, nice weather.
- Shake
Shack
- Food:
6/10 – Burgers always hit, but the truffle fries were garbage.
- Environment:
2/10 – No self-serve refills, and the worker looked personally
offended when I asked for one.
Week 10: March 24 - March 28
Monday:
- Officially
started with a new team, adjusting to their weekly scheduling
meetings.
- Capstone
research throughout the day.
- Took
a trip to drop off a package for a project.
Tuesday:
- Worked
on a planting diagram, organizing which seasons would bring
which colors and blooms.
- Began
redlines for a construction document.
Wednesday:
- Continued
refining redlines.
- Made
a trip to pick up sample pool materials for a project.
- Witnessed
a van’s tire explode on the highway. It was straight out of Fast
& Furious. Dodging tire chunks was an unexpected highlight of the
day.
- Back
at the office, worked on a builder fence exhibit for a master-planned
community, mapping out where different fences would be placed.
Thursday:
- Wrapped
up redlines for one of the master-planned community packages.
- Developed
a street tree exhibit—same concept as the fence exhibit, just
replacing fences with trees.
Friday:
- Half-day!
Finished the street tree exhibit, then spent the rest of the time reading
blogs until it was time to leave.
- Checked
out the questions for my internship spotlight coming up in April.
Culinary Chronicles (Week 10 Edition: Meal Plan Mode)
- Since I started the food portion of the blog, I've transitioned onto a new meal plan that I eat every day. So, here is some insight on that. If someone is interested in my macros, I can get you that info too.
LSU Baseball Update (Week 10 Series vs. Mississippi
State)
LSU swept Mississippi State, bouncing back from the
Texas series loss.
- Game
1 (Thursday): LSU started rocky—Kade Anderson struggled early,
but the offense carried them to a 7-5 win.
- Game
2 (Friday): Dominant performance from Eyanson and Evans,
securing a 6-1 win.
- Game
3 (Saturday): LSU completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory,
thanks to solid hitting and improved pitching. Shores even took a ball to
the face and finished the inning.
This puts LSU back on track heading into tougher SEC
matchups.
