Life@CARBO Vol.4

 Salutations Friends!

Assignment Updates!

Earlier this month we did a controlled burn of the switchgrass located in front of the office.

WEEK TEN

·         Weekly Monday Staff Meeting

·         Introduction to a new project Moncus Park

·         Continued JD Clifton Sheet set-up.

·         Mikala and I were tasked with performing a nighttime Light Survey at LSU. The campus received a 4 million dollar grant to improve lighting with the aim of making a safer campus during darker hours. A control light survey was conducted by the previous intern(s). The purpose is to show the before and after of the campus lighting situation. The job calls for us to drive around on campus on a golf cart with a receptor attached to the roof that feeds into a device that measures footcandles picked up by the receptor and logs it with GPS. That data will then be downloaded and visualized through what can be described as a heat map, but in the place of hotter temperatures are more the illuminated areas and vice versa for the poorly lit areas. The plan is to do the entire campus in about 4 two-to-three-hour sessions, we will likely dedicate 1-2 nights a week to this for the next couple of weeks.

·         Assisted in redline corrections for LSUA Downtown Health Services Center

·         We ended up completing the ride in one night!

·         Began a detail for a synthetic putting green being used in the JD Clifton project in Lake Charles.

WEEK ELEVEN

·         Weekly staff meeting on Monday morning

·         Wrapped up the first run of my synthetic putting green detail. Got brief feedback, adjusted, now awaiting more input.

·         Got tasked with another piece of JD Clifton to layout through a planting design for phase one. Phase one alone contains upwards on 215 trees ranging from a variety of citrus, oak, and pine trees.

·         Later in the week the objectives are:

·         Meeting concerning Roseate Beach’s open space designs

·         Further assistance on the LC Rebound Streetscape (a group of Lake Charles projects to beautify existing streets and intersections) DD Sheet set-up

·         Working on a residential base map for the priest of St. Alyious

Personal Bits:

My neighbor (plays pro) and I have been attending a weekly Saturday basketball run at a local gym that has very good competition. I've used the runs as a focal point to structure out a routine:

Sunday: Rest

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: Weights

Thursday: Spot Shooting (Basketball)

Friday: Skill Work (Basketball)

Saturday: Runs (Basketball)
