WEEKS # 3-4

Week #3: Jan 27

During my 3rd week at SWT, I was lucky enough to go on out- of-office trips 3 times. In the beginning of the week, I joined Scott, Ted and Will on a meeting for SEED at Jacobs office. During this meeting we sketched new concepts to problem solve new constraints, like the transformers being placed in the middle of the site by Ameren. Later on in the week, I got to go on a site visit with Bri and Abby, to Wild Acres Park. The objective was to analyze what potential trees could come down based on poor health, and to help give more room for construction, so healthy trees can be protected. We also reviewed potential landing spots for the boardwalk that will cross two areas in the lake, as well as possible ramp locations. We found that two trees were unhealthy and could come down, opening an area for the ADA ramp and boardwalk to fit. My 3rd out of office trip of the week was going on SWT’s first drone flight site visit at the site for SEED Demo Garden. There, I watched and assisted with Scott for Will as he piloted the drone. This was my first time seeing someone operate a drone for a site visit and Will was helpful in his explanations. While in the office, I got to work on multiple projects this week. I created a plant board based off a planting plan for East Moline 15th Ave. I continued editing my River Forest Park signage concepts, which I then presented to STL2 during the Thursday weekly meeting, where I got great helpful feedback. Using these critiques, I edited my signage and Corey, and I planned a meeting with Lance to talk over our concept ideas. I also reviewed my SketchUp/Lumion model with Scott, who gave me feedback that I then used to edit and finish the models. After finishing, I took render photos on Lumion and sent them to Scott to review, who approved. I also continued researching materials and precedents for SEED, adding them to the new material matrix on our mural board. Finally, I was introduced to my internship project. I met Bri and Bonnie to talk about objectives, schedule, and wants for the internship project. Then I was given the potential sites I can choose from and reviewed them in my free time for the rest of the week. The project I am drawn to now is the Makoce Food Hub located in South Dakota.

Week #4: Feb 3

My fourth week here at SWT was unlike any other week so far. On Monday, we had our typical Monday morning meetings, and I worked on three different projects: SEED, River Forest Park, and my internship project. Monday evening, I started feeling sick and on Tuesday morning I woke up even worse. I worked my first remote day so I would not get anyone sick in the office. Though this first day turned into the rest of the week. I felt incredibly sick but worked half a day throughout the week to push forward on projects I had. I worked on three projects when home, SEED, River Forest Park and my internship project. Although I rather work in the office, I found that working from home is not horrible, as it so often is made out to be. I enjoyed being able to rest while still being able to work when I could. Working on the SEED project while from home was nice because I was able to plug into my tv and see the imagery of materials I was searching for in a large format which helped me make decisions, (and helped me not get headaches from looking at my screen too close!) This set up proved to be helpful for the River Forest Project as well, allowing me to view it in a larger format and allowed me to make size-based decisions on the signage. Overall, I learned that working from home is what you make it, though I hope a sickness that bad stays away from me for a long time.

No photos of the week too sickly :(

  1. That is cool that you not only have an internship project but you get to choose!
