CONNOR Interning(5)- DDG
What a time it's been here at DDG so far. Didn't have much job related stuff last time but this time I got the juice...
On Thursday afternoon one of our PM's asked me "Connor, are you an early riser?" to which I responded, "I like to think so". He then asked me to be at the office at 5:30 Friday morning to carpool with him to a job site in Prairieville. This is what I saw...

At approximately 6:06 we arrived to the site and feasted our eyes upon this monstrosity of a concrete pumping truck. It was still dark with about an hour left until daylight.

This is the boom erecting from the pump truck to begin pumping concrete. The pipes on the arm hold about 5,000 pounds of concrete every 10 feet. The guy controlling this thing was using a remote that looked like one of those toy car control sticks and he was smoking a cig. When he explained the process to me on site all of my drowsiness had depleted from the waft of smokey morning breath he bestowed upon me.
This is right before they started pumping. My superior said this was a good contractor because he put plastic wrap around the metal fence posts to prevent them from being splashed by concrete during the poor.
For the concrete trucks to reach the pump truck, gravel had to be placed so the trucks wouldn't just sink in the mud... some of the trucks were still getting stuck. There was a substantial amount of rain the day before.
Later in the morning, after the first court poor was almost complete, the concrete guy was questioning the mixture of concrete. He said he thought it might have too much water in it making it too runny. So, we watched as this young lad performed a slump test on the mix. He said the concrete was a level 9 but they want it to be a level 6 or 7... I think the higher the number is the lower the viscosity of the wet concrete is. The small grey capsules are for taking samples of the concrete mix for testing. This guy in the pic was wearing a bama baseball cap... booo
This is the first court halfway complete. They were working hard to keep up with the guy controlling the big pump truck pipe. He was swangin that thang around like crazy
That's all I got for this post. See ya
