(#1) Kenzie’s Return to Memphis to INTERN!!! - Meet the Cast

HI GUYS!!

First thing’s first: I miss you all and I’m finding everyone’s blogs to be delightful. I can’t wait for more!

Update update update!!

I’m doing my internship at a local firm named Blair Parker Design (BPD) in Memphis, TN. It’s about 35-40 minutes away from my family’s house where I’m staying. (YAY SAVING MONEY!)

Meet the Cast — BPD

Blair Parker Design was started by a lovely man named (you guessed it) named Blair Parker back in 2009. That may not seem like too long ago, but he’s been in the industry for quite some time now and they’ve made quite a name for themselves in our local LA community. It’s a small firm with just 5 of us — including me now:) They do all sorts of design work across the Memphis area and work their way out across other parts of Tennessee.

First up is Blair - our principal and beloved namesake. While he was very intimidating at first given his role and name at the front door, he’s one of the most caring and easy to talk to people I’ve ever met. Outside of his duties running the company - which I am slowly piecing together - he is just another part of the team and is working with us through every part of the design process.

Mindy is next, and she is his partner in crime and the real boss of the office, keeping everyone in line and bringing a lighthearted joyfulness to the studio. She loves her horses and the Memphis Grizzlies (go Griz!!). She also pays us so she’s extra important. She keeps us stocked with snacks and lets me steal her bathroom key when I forget mine. I wouldn’t make it through a day without her.

Then there is Brandon, who is Blair’s left hand man (if Mindy is his right). He is technically my boss and the one guiding me through this internship, though I’m very much so free to ask anyone in the office for help and I work with each of them almost daily. I found out that Mark Boyer also taught him Grading when he was back at the University of Arkansas and it led to a few silly conversations and exchanges of stories which helped us break the ice early on.

Last but not least is Zack, our last LA on the team. He’s a very talented designer that does a large portion of our renderings. I’m learning little tricks from him left and right on various software. He’s been pretty deep in one of our larger projects at the moment so I haven’t worked with him a whole lot just because we’ve been needed in different areas, but he answers one of my questions at least once a day. For that, we say thank you, Zack.

that was long winded but I love these people and I want you to get a base idea of them for the rest of my posts.

tell me about your favorite office pal in the comments!! (person or pet is acceptable)

PICTURES!!

front entrance to our office! It’s beautiful.

Elvis guarding our closet - sometimes he eats our snacks.

not work relevant, but a good rather beautiful Tennessee sunset from my first week back

Pretty view of my building after work one evening:) if you see the green on the first floor, that’s us.
