Week 3-4: The City Speaks – Learning the Terrain
Week 3-4: The City Speaks
Onboarding
finally ends, delayed by the icy grasp of winter. But now, the real work
begins.
The
Mission
·
CAD updates for
aging park elements. The past must be honored, but it must also be improved.
· - A presentation
for new site elements—visions of the future.
· - Cost estimates.
Numbers tell a story, but not the whole one.
The
Field Calls
A site visit—eight parks, each whispering their needs. Signage and wayfinding, the unsung heroes of public space. We observe, analyze, take notes. Then, the ambush. Squirrels. Too many to count. Their motives? Unclear. Their presence? Unnerving.

Intel: Lunch and Learn
Spruce and
Gander. A name that carries weight. Materials, applications, insights.
Knowledge is power.
The
Hunt Continues
·
In-N-Out
(Burger)
o Food: 4/10 – They spoke of legend. I found disappointment.
o Environment (Drive-Thru): 2/10 – Chaos. Inefficiency. The opposite of what I stand for. No sauce
either!
·
Hat Creek
Burger Company
o Food: 7/10 – A bright spot in the darkness.
o Environment: 4/10 – Functional,
but unremarkable. They did give me a free drink tho!
·
Sawyer Park
Ice House
o Food: 9/10 – A revelation. The best I’ve found.
o Environment: 8/10 – A place that
understands its purpose.
Verdict:
A Ray of Hope
Sawyer
Park Ice House proves that
greatness can still exist. In-N-Out was a crime against expectation.
