 Week #11: Mar 24

This is a very special week of my internship as this week I traveled to Portland, Oregon to receive the Charles Fountain Scholar Program undergraduate award at the CELA annual conference! I applied for this award after being dominated as a fountain scholar back in November. To not only be chosen by CELA as the 1 winner out of almost 30 fountain scholars from 100s of nominations, but to be so supported by LSU and SWT for them to help me get to Portland has meant the WORLD to me!!!!!! And I will never be able to put into words how grateful I am for this experience.

 

And while I was traveling/ in Portland from Wed-Fri, on Mon-Tues I worked on finishing up the SEED 50 CD sheets edits then sent those out to be reviewed. I then switched to Mexico and finished filling out the EIR, as well as organizing the note documents and scanned documents to correlate and began GIS mapping.


Week #12: Mar 31

 

During my week back after my Portland trip for CELA, I settled back into my routine for the most part other than some out of the ordinary new updates to SWT in-house functionality. We had our Monday Morning Meetings like normal and then followed with a Vantage point kick-off/review, working through how the new program is different and similar to our previous planning program. This week I had a workshop with Bri working on ArcGIS Pro to ArcMaps in adobe illustrator workflow for Brentwood parks graphic. I then worked on starting this plan, both 24x36 and 11x17 in GIS, gathering data and building my own feature classes when needed. This week I also made progress on Mexico existing conditions inventory. I researched the school district and made a feature class of them all to map each school for the upcoming open house boards. Also in GIS I updated boundaries of parks that were incorrect. I also worked on the benchmarking excel document, comparing the NPRA recommendation #’s to Mexico’s population and recording on the excel. I also worked on the indesign document with the parks basemaps for the upcoming open house boards. Overall I had a great and productive 12th week at SWT.

In my first week at Confluence in Minneapolis, it was all about learning the systems and how things work here: file structure, licensing, AutoCAD standards, company structure, and how project timelines and budgets work. On my first day, I was able to introduce myself to everyone in the office and get settled onto my desk and computer. In our office there are only 10 of us, including myself and another intern who is also a 4th-year landscape architecture student but at the University of Minnesota. Life@CARBO Vol.2

GREETINGS ONCE AGAIN! I am attempting to get better at this blogging thing, I think my delivery of the last one was a bit bland and robotic. Fortunately, they say in life growth is inevitable and the same applies to my internship experience. I feel the level of trust is being raised with us interns. From the increased workload to the level of work being that is tasked to us. I don't know if it's just me but having my judgement and skill trusted to the level of having a deliverable that I had a large role in being presented to others is a slightly nervous but very rewarding feeling. It also acts as a motivator to keep learning and increase the quality of my efforts.  Assignment updates! Mikala and I did tree warranty work at Greenwood Park in Baker. Our task of was to walkthrough a portion of the park and tag the dead trees and ground shrubs so they could be replaced under their one-year warranty.                         ...
