2/Addy learns things
I started my first day at LandDesign at 9 am after they had a meeting about me. great. I got my own desk in a pod of 7 other girls who are around our age and so kind. This is a picture of my desk setup! They gave me an official LandDesign yeti- which I have already dented- and a computer which I quickly made pink and put images of work by Alvaro Sampedro, a landscape architect who I presented to you guys for Wills planting class, if you can rack your pretty little brain for that.
I was pretty impressed by all the cool swag they gave me and so I honestly ended up like a baby who was being distracted by candy. I was not told about much of the actual company. My first week was a struggle to figure out exactly how the studio ran, as I am sure most of you had to figure out too. I have discovered that we have half day Fridays only if you stay late or skip lunch. I hope to come back really skinny but skipping lunch every day is a no for me. I also have found myself with a foot in the door on about 4 projects that I don't full understand but know are all city planning and developing + public park spaces.
My biggest challenge has for sure been the files. I am TERRIFIED to mess them up, to add, to edit, to name something wrong. BUT. I will say that the super simple rendering above was done in 5 minutes flat because they have so so many resources and files at the ready. It's exciting. That rendering is a small area located next to proposed "affordable" housing in North Texas. The whole project is conceptually centered around trees, but I find it to be lacking and am hoping I can get a little bit more than my foot in the door. I am excited to continue on this project and enjoy the charette/design process that happens in our meeting room- named after Dolly Parton- because why not?
