office tea @ dba

okay guys this week was full of changes as far as office life goes first thing is first, DANIELLE IS HAVING HER BABY!!! yayyyy we love new life and office babiessssss!!!! Dana Brown also loves kids so i'm sure she will treat danielle's un-named baby like her our grandkid. But yeah so danielle is obvi on maternity leave for a while. Secondly, one of our coworkers decided her time at DBA was over. She graduated from Georgia last spring and moved here and started working for Dana Brown shortly after. I'm not sure on the reason why she quit but i think she wasnt a fan of New orleans/louisiana in general. I think her boyfriend just lives down here so she decided to move, but that might not have worked out.. IDK.  But she moved back to Georgia and will work from home for a couple more weeks! she was super nice and helpful tho so im sad to see her leave! and lastly we hired a new guy about two months ago, buttt things werent transferring over very well with him. It was very obvio...

week 24-28

work work work work Hola people. This week has been pretty solid. Monday started off with some Calcasieu exit upgrades. Here i went through all the exits to and from I-10 in calcasieu Parish. I started with showing views of the exits and keying them to a setback map. Basically showing all the planting set backs that we can/cant use. Then I started drawing up some alternative designs to what we can do to improve these sites. once we narrowed it down to some designs we liked i turned some of the pictures to the original views into perspectives showing our new design.  google earth, where i had to capture views from, mind u there is like 24 exits lmaoooo lamesauce... we need some wildflowers  Also throughout the week i helped out with some logo designs for the Coushatta Tribe Educational Building, this didn't take much effort. just finding pictures of some animals and cleaning them up into what we want with photoshop.  Also Also for the projects that I was complaining ...

Blog 6 for fun Sophie Webber

WORK: The past 2 weeks have been lots of fun at work! Last week, I got to go out to Lockhart Elementary School and measure every. last. tree. on the entire campus. It took hours, but it felt so good to be outside, so I just romanticized life and enjoyed myself. This week, I got to go to a Community Meeting at Crowder Park. The rendering of the trail system I put on my last blog was blown up onto a poster board along with a bunch of others for people of the community to come by and see what we have going on. A few grumpy neighbors complaining about the park expansion, but mostly excited bikers and hikers. I was out there for 4 hours, and the pollen goes hard so I seriously sneezed on the entire community. This week, I am working on a secret project making CAD bases from GIS of various locations, so we have options on where to put our big juicy secret.    FUN: Last weekend, I hung out with my brother, Lydia, and Coco again, but this time in Wilmington, NC. It's on t...

Blog #4 - Jalen Winburn

Blog #4 - Jalen Winburn Hello everyone, As of lately, the work has picked up a bit as a few of our projects are coming close to closing, which means getting final deliverables and documents finished before the upcoming deadlines. Last week I was working a bit more on the mixed-use development project, doing more SketchUp and Enscape work. The model is almost entirely finished, which has been really sweet to work on from start to finish and see come to life. I am currently working on another flythrough video of the model that will get sent out to the city later in the week. I also spent some time putting an entire neighborhood development into AutoCAD, which has been really interesting as I've been learning about plats, outlots, parcels, property easements, and development phases, which all come together to make a neighborhood. Next weekend is our company-wide get-together, which is in the Minneapolis office, which is nice, so I don't have to travel too far. However, this means ...

All I Do Is Model - Life @ SWA #5

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well - I know it's been a while since I wrote buttt a lot has been happening recently, both in and out of work. I'll start with work; my last post was talking about a 3D model I was building and rendering. Well I finished working on that and views were sent out to the client along with the photoshop plan I showed before. They loved the vision and want to move forward with the design! I know its not my design, but it feels good hearing that the graphics I helped create were liked by the client. Well... I assumed I would continue working on that project as a had been for a while, but I got asked to help out on another. This time I'm actually getting to do design work - which is both scary and exciting at the same time.. but they have me creating and designing different entry monuments for a planned community project outside of Katy. There's no real deadline for this task so I've been plugging myself into it whenever I get the...

Life at CLH w/ Chloe #5

Hey friends! We are already almost halfway done with our internships (CRAZY!) I for one, honestly do not want to go back to school in the fall. I am loving working and not having to stress about school. I am really excited to be back with all of y'all in a few months though! I miss y'all! Work: Work has been pretty busy the past two weeks. We have a bunch of deadlines on the last of the month so we are working really hard to push out some work for the deadlines. I had to completely redo one of my renderings today because the design changed entirely. The client decided that our original design was too expensive so we had to cut out a lot of our design which made it difficult to edit the rendering so I just started from the beginning. A fun project that I got put on last week is a quad on Duke's campus. Even though this project just started, it is a small project so I should be able to see this one through construction since I don't leave until July. It will be very cool...

Arielle - Will I ever go on a site visit??

Image
Heyyy it’s been a while… I kind of forgot about the blog already. Things have been pretty good, I went to a conference for the Bill Millsap Fellowship scholarship presentations. One of my coworkers won it and made a short film on the naturalistic but intentional design that Lawrence Halprin did for Yosemite. It was really nice, and made me tear up a little ngl They still haven’t taken me on a site visit yet (I’m frothing at the mouth at this point to see an actual site). They say that I’ll be going to a few once April starts, but we shall see. Work-wise, I’m still working on the cool schools project and making the masterplan boards look all nice and set up right. I’ve also been condemned to stay working in CAD until they find new work for me (I’ve never updated so many sheets in my life) I’ve been exploring Dallas a bit more. I’ve really been enjoying downtown, the Bishop Arts district, and Deep Ellum. The parks around here are also super nice. I plan on exploring more if the weather d...
